| Warsaw at sunset. This is part of the 'downtown' area, i.e. business
center. Most of the city was destroyed in WWII. Some of the
old parts were rebuilt according to the old style, but much of the city
was constructed afterwards. This is part of the 'new' area, which
includes the high-rise office buildings built in the last 10 years.
I find Warsaw has an interesting mixture of 'old' and 'new'. The block houses you see in back on the left are common. They could be apartment buildings. Socialist architecture was not very creative. It could be that they were more concerned with providing enough housing rather than beautiful buildings. |

| More of the 'new' Warsaw, as seen from the 30th floor of the 'Palace of Culture'. We had a good time up there taking in the view and drinking coffees. They call this building the 'Gift of Stalin'. Others call it 'Stalin's Revenge' because they think it's so ugly. But the view is nice. |
