Italy

page 2 - Vinschgau

Here's Dad in front of the 'Vinschgau' valley. This is basically the south end of the area where the German dialect is spoken. It's very close to the Swiss border, approx 60 km from Austria.
A hiking hut above Lavin, Switzerland.  You can stay in these huts overnight for a nominal price, if you're willing to walk the 2 1/2 hours up the mountain to get here.  There is even 'running water sewer systems' (a.k.a. mountain stream).

This is the same area that got hit by avalanches 5 years ago (this hut you see had to be rebuilt), and floods and mudslides this year (not as bad as some other parts of Switzerland). I find it sad that so many scenic places have to suffer from the weather catastrophe phenomenon we've experienced in the last 10 years.

Hooray, I made it back to Italy!  That was a short trip.  It's still raining.
