Italy

page 1 - 'Vinschgau'

During the Fall 2000 I took a short trip to Italy with my parents. We spent many hours walking through the cold rain of northern Italy and discussing work, friendships, politics, money (when we weren't arguing about directions).  Apart from that, the views were spectacular and I learned a lot about this very interesting region - a place where the people all speak a dialect of German along with the official language of Italian.  Dad, who is a history buff, helped to clear up questions of linguistics and local history, while Mom smoothed things over with her organizational saavy. (did I spell that right?)

A view of the mountainside during a hike to the 'Lichtenberger Hof'.  Don't be deceived - we drove most of the way up first - climbed only 1000 meters (3000 feet).
The 'arcades' in the town of Glurns.  We stayed nearby here at a local 'pension'.  In between some of these buildings there are operating barn buildings (they drive their cattle out through the streets in the morning and back in the evening- see below).  Next to these 'town farms' you may encounter a chic shop where you can buy hand-made Italian shoes.
Traffic jams in this area often take a bovine form... I find this scene much more entertaining and amusing than listening to radio jockeys tell me how long the traffic jam I am sitting in still has to go ....
