First some terminology:
To fire up the wood stove (NOTE: "stove", not "oven") you should start with the following:
The first thing you need to do is clean the oven, if it is cooled off. Opening the MAIN DOOR, take the shovel from the tools and scrape it back and forth on the bottom. The ash should fall through the slats onto the ash pan on bottom. Take out the ash pan and dump in the ash bin (black, with handle), best to do this outside on the deck.
To start the fire, load up the stove with the newpaper and kindling on the bottom, logs on top, like in any normal fire. Before you light anything, make sure the oven looks like this:
When the fire reaches ca. 400 Degrees, the wood is usually well lit and has partially burned through. At this point you can: CLOSE TOP AIR INTAKE. this reduces oxygen flow and the fire burns slower.
When the fire reaches ca. 750 Degrees, the temperature is high enough to engage the catalytic converter, going into "efficiency mode". Engage the Converter by screwing the CAT. CONVERTER SCREW in to 1 turn open. Close the other air vents (BOTTOM AIR INTAKE). Now the fire should get hot (unless it's the first time after being completely cold), up to above 1000 Degrees.
